What do girls really know about sports anyway? They only want the attention. They like Cam Newton because his abs and they like Kobe because, well, he's Kobe. Men watch the playoffs and women fill the queso bowl. Biology.
blah, blah, blah.. UGH.
If I had a nickle for everytime a man second guessed my facts or seemed shocked by my genuine interest in athletics, I might have made enough money to keep Brock Osweiler with the Broncos.
They say girls who know a thing or two about sports are "unicorns" because let's face it, they just don't exist. Well, call me a "unicorn" or give me a funky look while I talk about how underrated Damian Lillard is, either way yes, I am a girl and sports excite me. I don't think that means I'm a "unicorn," it just makes me someone who doesn't watch the SuperBowl for the commercials. Not all ladies prefer pink sneakers or need play-by-play explanations and I'm hoping this blog will aid in the ongoing war against all those stubborn girly-girl stereotypes. This isn't a feminist tirade or some bitter rant, it's just the thoughts of someone who's tired of being asked to "name five players on that team" to prove I'm a legit fan.
My SportsCenter program airs the same segments, my BleacherReport app sends just as many notifications and sure, my brackets get busted but it's not because I picked teams based on their mascots or school colors. We all have different backgrounds and passions, many girls just aren't interested in things like free agency trades and that's ok - but some of us really do know what we're talking about. Need further proof? Check out the show Garbage Time.
So finally, back to my original question. What do girls really know about sports anyway?
Well... just as much as the boys.
